Fighting a battle with ticks

Ticks. Hate them. Dar spotted 1 crawling on Mico the other day.
All in all, this is the 4th tick found on Mico.
Irritating. What if my house is infested with ticks? Ticks will be crawling all over the walls, on Mico & even my bed!
I declare that the war with ticks has began.

Previously only using neem oil, I have given up temporarily and bought Accurate spray yesterday. Conscientiously searching for ticks on Mico every day. Washed her bedding, spray her with accurate and all over the areas which she frequently lay on. Found the ticks wounds on her as well. Poor gal. Everytime she scratches, I will search her for ticks.

Mico is such a problem dog. 1 year old but got so many accidents. Chocolate incident, scratched by stray cat, bullied by dog & now ticks.

In ASD record of fosterers

Seems like I am now in ASD's record of fosterers. They approached me to foster this dog, sunflower.

Poor gal. 8 years old. Abandoned in Pasir Ris. Believed to be used for breeding all her life & kept in a cage tied up. Legs deformed, skin problem now healed but left with scars. Unlike a typical JRT. Undemanding. Not toilet trained at all. Now fostered by the woman who has 6 dogs at home. Wish to pass onto me as she is unable to cope.

Can't decide if I should foster her or not. If I do, I wonder how long would the fostering period be. I guess this kind of dog will not be easily adopted unlike Boyce, young, active & cute. Later I grow too attached.

That time I fostered Boyce is because of someone's desperation. This time around, she is not so desperate hence I guess I will not offer my services unless people bug me again & again. Otherwise, why bring myself this kind of trouble. Coming home after work to clean pee & poo which is all over the kitchen is no fun. 8 years old dog, though trainable, will be more difficult to toilet train than a young dog. Especially she comes from a pet farm where she is used to filthy conditions.

Anyway Boyce is happy with his family and attached to them. Good for him.

Mico wins Pet photography contest?

Canberra Zone 3 RC has this dog contest which they asked us to submit a maximum of 4 photos. I submitted my favourite photo of Mico, the one with the ball to them. Seems like she won the contest as the organiser called me and asked if I would be attending the event tomorrow. These are the 3 pictures I sent to them.

I had almost completely forgotten about the event and did not even know what he was referring to. Anyway, told him that I might not be going. On morning shift tomorrow morning anyway.

Mico also weird weird today. Call her to come and she would not come but just lay down in her bed. Perhaps she missed Boyce as much as I do. They were on 'licking terms'.

Anyway, smart Mico got frightened by Dar. Jumped up our bed and leaked pee to demonstrate her unhappiness. Normally, she would not dare to jump up our bed. Then she ran back to the kitchen toilet to hide as she knew what she did was wrong. It was so deliberate. haha

My beloved Boyce - Adopted

Boyce has been adopted. The Ah Peh, his wife, teenage son & elderly mother has adopted him. They seemed to be a nice family. A retired malenurse who had numerous dogs before, a keen son eager to have a dog and a friendly mother. They gave up a beagle to someone else as it was not HDB approved. That was my only concern. Otherwise they seemed fine enough and would not ill-treat Boyce.

So I told ASD that I was comfortable with the family. And they took him this morning, 10.30 am. I met Boyce on 24 feb, 10.30am and he left me for a good family on 17 mar, 10.30am. Happily let him go, gave him my blessings and thought that I would not be so sad. He did not even look back, whine or bark. Mico still attemped to follow him.

Immediately upon reaching home, I can feel the silence in my house. No longer can I hear whining. Despite being irritated by his whining everyday and the need to bring him down to pee & poo without fail every day and night, I still think of him fondly.

He made progressed from a mad dog to a more obedient dog. Knows how to sit, down, come & respond to his name. When I brought Mico down for a walk, it was back to just Mico & me. I missed Boyce. We walked along the path we walked daily and I can acutely feel his absence. Missed the times when I saw Dar run with both of them. Mico was also sniffing away the places which he loved to pee.

Only a mere 3 weeks can my heart melt to a stubborn dog. My fostering experience, full of hardship & joy. Hardship is when he would whine and bark to wake up this pack of lazy bones without fail, mopping up after him when he leaked pee, finding time to go for vacination & sterlisation. Joy is when he started to be obedient and endearing. I did not regret fostering him.

Why din I adopt him? He did not fit into my lifestyle. Such an active dog would not do so well in my household when my working hours are so irregular. Will I foster a dog again? If I have the time and energy, I would.

2 families keen on Boyce

1 family coming to visit Boyce tomorrow. Ah Peh with his wife & son with a aged mother staying with them. They were very eager to visit Boyce and even wanted to visit tonight.

The other family is a lady with a jack russel.

Hopefully someone suitable adopts Boyce soon.

Mum's been bugging me to get rid of Boyce. Even suggested that I just open the door to let him run out. Said he is ugly looking. Face looks cute but body/fur looks ugly.

Happy with my TV purchase

So happy with my TV purchase at IT show. Went there at the last hour as Dar wanted to buy laptop bag. Was so crowded. Since Dar already went there the day before, he asked me what I wanted to see. Zoomed into Samsung booth as I thought of looking at LCD TV. So glad that I did.

When I reached the booth, the MC was selling off the display sets at 25% off retail price. Somemore got freebies. One would have to raise your hand if you were keen and the TV would go to you. I saw one super 'chio' TV which costed about $1900. Would fit my house decor perfectly but I was reluctant to pay so much for a TV. In the end, I saw another TV, same size but $1588. After 25% off, it was $1199. It came with home theatre system and $100 hard rock cafe voucher. So when the MC came to that TV, I waited for him to announce the price before I put up my hand. So fun.

Poor Dar got to carry the home theatre system all the way from convention centre to the carpark at Carrefour. He said luckily we did not buy the super 'chio' TV as it came with a larger home theatre system which he would have difficulty carrying

Tick

Being a dog owner for months, don't really know what are ticks and fleas. While rubbing Mico's tummy last night, saw something black and thought it was dirt. Tried to pull it out then realised it had legs. Pulled it out and squashed it to bits & pieces. Luckily it was only 1 tick. I will not walk both Boyce & Mico again on slightly tall grass.

Anyone wants me? I will be such a good dog

My name is Boyce, a cross. People think I am JRT and Shiz Tsu cross. I am about 2 years old. Some kind soul found me tied to a bench and tried very hard to get people to foster me to avoid sending me to my "doomsday" at SPCA. A nice organisation, ASD, also took me under their wings to look for adopter and pay for my vacination, sterlisation 'ouch!' & microchip. Have been declared to have a clean bill of health by the nasty people at some place where people poked me with needle.

I may look wild, domineering and appear to be barkish. Acutally, I am just doing this to protect myself. Deep down, I just need protection from a pack leader. I do not like being a leader at all. I am just contented to sit beside my pack leader and keep him company. I get along with most dogs except the super domineering ones when they get unfriendly. Once comfortable with my pack, I do not mind them bullying me at all or eating together with me at my bowl. I am outdoor trained and will alert you if I need to go pee/poo. Also been labled as a HDB approved breed.
A home with security and someone who dotes on me is all I need. Will you take me home with you? If you think you can love me, please email my fosterer at pricky@singnet.com.sg to arrange for a visit.

Please give me a chance to love you. If you need to ask further questions, my fosterer will be more than delighted to answer any questions that you have about me.

PS. the kind soul that gives me a home will have to sign adoption papers with ASD and pay adoption fees.

Love

Boyce

Pictures of Boyce

Must take some pictures of Boyce before he gets adopted.

Poor Boy. Went for vacination at Namly yesterday and sterlisation today. Was outside waiting for him when I heard him scream. All the dogs and people in the waiting area were a bit scared after hearing him scream.

I should have taken pictures of his 'balls' before and after but I was too disgusted to do it anyway. Hee. Once, he got too excited and his 'P' started to spurt something out. Totally disgusted with him and asked hubby to take him away.

I'm glad I have a female dog.

Updates on Boyce & Mico's condition

Mico seems to have recovered from the scratch. Although can still see cornea tear, which has turned white, the wound is healing. Costed me 2 visits to vet & $90 so far. Still need to go follow up tomorrow.

As for Boyce, naughty boyce was so daring. After I finished feeding them and placed their bowl on the table, he actually jumped for the table. Fortunately, the table was too high for him. So mad with him that day. Could believe the previous adopter's words that he jumped onto their dining table.

Got a potential adopter for Boyce. Asked me for photos of him. Hope he gets a new home soon. Otherwise if he stays too long, he may miss us when he leaves.
